With more than 12 million sold in America since 1973, the Honda Civic is one of the three best-selling passenger cars of the last 48 years. Every new version of such a phenomenally successful car has a lot to live up to then, and the redesigned eleventh-generation 2022 Honda Civic Sedan more than lives up to its illustrious heritage.
The new design is perhaps more evolution than revolution so you’ll immediately recognize the new car as a Civic, but you’ll also see that the 2022 Civic Sedan now boasts a sleeker and more streamlined contemporary look to go with the new higher-quality interior.
It wouldn’t make sense to abandon absolutely everything about the previous Civic just for the sake of it because it was a hugely successful car that sold in big numbers, so some things such as the trim levels still have a familiar sound and feel about them. The entry-level version is the Civic LX, and from there the range goes to the Sport, EX, and the Touring model.
In true Honda Civic style, the entry-level car is extremely competitively priced even though the standard features and equipment appear anything but entry-level. And although the top-level Touring trim encroaches on the realms of true luxury specification, it’s still amazingly affordable.
The engines powering the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan are naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four and a 1.5-liter turbo-four. The 2.0-liter unit is standard in LX and Sport trim levels and produces 158 horsepower and 138.-ft. of torque, while EX and Touring versions of the new Civic feature the 1.5-liter turbo with its 180 horsepower and 177 lb.-ft. of torque.
Both powerplants send their power exclusively to the front wheels of the Civic through Honda’s outstanding continuously variable transmissions. Sport and Touring versions of the Civic also come with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and a 3-Mode Drive System (ECON/Normal/Sport/) to tailor the Civic to different driving styles.
Every Civic is now bursting with the very latest technology, which starts with a new 7-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration in EX, Sport and LX models. Touring models go even further with a larger 9-inch touchscreen, wireless phone charging, the Civic’s first all-digital LCD instrument display, and a Bose premium 12-speaker sound system.
All models also come standard with the Honda Sensing suite of safety and driver-assist technologies, which include the likes of Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane-Keeping Assist, a Traffic Sign Recognition System (TSR) and much, much more besides.
With a sleek and contemporary new look, high-quality interiors, excellent engines, and loads of the very latest technology at extremely competitive prices, the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan really is better than ever. And that’s saying something!
